Past Projects - the Davis & Dijvigin families 2008
The Home Team's two one-day projects this year were for Mehrnez and the Davis family of Port Coquitlam and Coquitlam.
Tanya and Guy Davis have lived in their Coquitlam neighborhood for several years, taking part in their community and raising their four children Zack, Phil, Gray and Gaby. The Davis family suffered a terrible loss last year when Gaby, diagnosed with cancer in 2006 died at the age of 7. Having a sick child as well as 3 more boys at home and having to travel to California for Gaby's treatments took a financial toll. Several years previous Guys had and accident and is unable to do many of the the heavy tasks around the house. In memory of their daughter, Tanya and Guy have started the Gaby Davis Foundation which offers support and assistance to children with cancer and their families in times of financial need.
Mrs. Dijvigin is a single mother with two boys aged 11 & 8. She also recently has suffered injuries due to a car accident and is unable to work or do a lot of things around the house. The oldest son has had to step up and help with caring for his younger brother, and witnessing his mothers stress, he wrote us to nominate her. He tells us that the roof is leaking and they are worried about the coming winter, and how he has a good mother and hates to see her so sad.
With the Home Teams help, Mrs. Dijvigin and her children, as well as the Davis', can finally focus on their families and not have to worry about their roof leaking.
On September 14th, the two families left their homes for a day of fun and were brought back later in the evening to the reveal of their repaired homes. It’s certainly been an experience these two families will not soon forget.
